The adoption fees are $100 for dogs and $135 for dogs 6 months and younger. The $85 fee for cats 6 months and older is currently being waived and for kittens has been reduced to $50.  The fee includes spay/neuter surgery, preliminary vaccinations, microchip and registration, heartworm test for dogs and feline leukemia test for cats and more. The adoption fee for rabbits is $20.00. PROGRAM EXTENDED FOR PIT BULLS

In June of 2011 the Humane Society of Broward County offered FREE spaying or neutering for pit bulls ages 8 weeks to 6 months.  The program initially was supposed to last only a month and was then extended through December of 2011.  As a result, 113 pit bulls were sterilized at the Humane Society of Broward County.  Because of the program’s success, and donations from the community that helped cover the costs associated with this, the shelter is going to continue the program through 2012.  The goal for the year is to sterilize another 225 pit bulls.  So, if you know someone that has a pit bull that meets the requirements, please have them contact the shelter at 954-463-7729 or spayneuter@hsbroward.com to take advantage of the program.

The Humane Society of Broward County receives thousands of animals every year who are surrendered by their owners for a variety of reasons.  While the animals are in the care of the shelter, they are given their vaccinations, the dogs are taken for walks, and volunteers spend time with them to make their stay as comfortable as possible. 

As a non-profit organization the shelter relies on donations to operate and currently is in need of the following items:  new or gently used towels, white for the kennels and colors and patterns for bathing; soft dog treats and cat treats; paper towels for cleaning; rubber dog toys that can be disinfected and cat toys; hand sanitizer; and of course monetary donations are always welcomed to help offset the costs of medications and expenses associated with operating the shelter.
